Buda C. Shofner, 91, of Springfield died at 1:30 pm, Saturday, March 26, 2011 at Villa East Healthcare Center in Sherman. She was born October 13, 1919 in Jasper County, IL to Claud and Sylvia Diel Coverstone. She married H. Sherwood Shofner on December 7, 1940.
She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.
She is survived by two daughters, Sherry Winters and Nina Bain, both of Springfield, one son-in-law, Frank Winters of Pleasant Plains, five grandsons, Michael (Angie) Winters, Mathew (Mary Ann) Winters Mark (fiance’ Amy Musgrave) Winters, Marvin Bain and Marston Bain, eight great-grandchildren, Kelsey (Josh) Buchanan, Cory, Ryan, Miranda, Luke, Kira, Ethan and Justin Winters, one great-great-granddaughter, Skye Buchanan, one brother, Hoyt Coverstone of Decatur, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Buda was a member of Douglas Avenue United Methodist Church for over 60 years. She was also a member of United Methodist Women. She was a good mother, grandmother and cook. She enjoyed listening to the Cardinals games, sewing and reading.
Buda was a resident of Springfield since 1950. She retired after 30 years of service from First National Bank where she had worked in the Trust Department. She also worked part-time at Building Blocks Daycare as a surrogate grandmother.
Visitation: 5-7 pm, Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at Staab Funeral Home.
Lie in State: 9:30-10 am Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at Douglas Avenue United Methodist Church.
Funeral Service: 10 am, Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at Douglas Avenue United Methodist Church where Reverend Julia Melgreen will officiate. Interment will follow at Farmington Cemetery.
Memorial Contributions may be made to Douglas Avenue United Methodist Church.
