Bruce L. Cody

Bruce Cody, 73, of Springfield, Illinois was called to heavenly peace and rest on May 2, 2018 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, Illinois.

Bruce was born to John H. and Ruth E. (Dale) Cody on February 15, 1945 in Springfield, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Bill and Ken Cody; sister, Betty Toler, and nephew, Don Cody, Jr.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Janice (Brehm) Cody; 2 daughters, Jill (Ron) Schaefer, of Springfield, Illinois, and Karen (Bryan) Miller of Helena, MT; 5 grandchildren, Courtney, CJ, and Cody Schaefer, and Morgan and Sara Miller; 3 brothers, Don (Marge) Cody of Tovey, David Cody of Divernon, and Doug (Donna) Cody of Springfield; 3 sisters, Barbara (David) McTaggart of Chatham, Sharon (Butch) Landrey of Pawnee, and Shelley Cody of Pawnee; brother-in-law, Gary Brehm of New Berlin and brother-in-law, Carroll Toler; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Bruce was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Springfield, Illinois. He graduated from Pawnee High School. He also served as a Democratic precinct committeeman.

Bruce worked at Fiat Allis for many years. He proudly served as the Financial Secretary for U.A.W. Local 1027 for many years. He retired from the State of Illinois Legislative Printing Unit.

The family would like to express many thanks to Dr. Noureen Zohra, Dr. Lynne Barkmeier, Dr. Randolph Martin and the physicians and staff at Davita Dialysis. Thanks to the doctors and nurses in Bruce’s finals days at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, Illinois.

A visitation will be held from 9:00 am until time of services at 10:30 am, Saturday, May 5, 2018 at Trinity Lutheran Parish Center, 515 S. MacArthur Springfield, IL with Reverend Dr. Thomas Radtke officiating. Burial will follow at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in New Berlin, IL.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, School, and Preschool in Bruce’s honor and would be appreciated.
