Bobby E. Pride, 85, of Springfield, died on Monday, December 27, 2010 at 6:45 a.m. at his home. He was born on August 4, 1925 in Benton, IL, the son of Earl and Madge Craig Pride. Bobby married his wife of 68 years, Mary Cartwright, on November 21, 1942. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Vivian Melvin and an infant brother.
Surviving Bobby are his wife, Mary; two daughters, Cindy Pride Gibson of Bloomington and Sandy (significant other, Joe Brink III) Pride of Springfield; two grandchildren, Max Gibson and Rhiannon Pride; one great-grandchild, Anthony and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was a member of Kiwanis Club- North and formerly served as the President and Lieutenant Governor for the district. He was also the past treasurer of the Young Child Association and co- owner, with his wife, of Mother Goose Day Care Center for 46 years. His hobbies included wood carving and attending craft shows. Mr. Pride served as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army Airforce during WW II. He was a gunner aboard a B-17 and was involved in 35 bombing missions.
Memorial Gathering: 1-3 p.m. Sunday, January 2, 2011, at Staab Funeral Home
Memorial Service: 3 p.m. Sunday, January 2, 2011 at Staab Funeral Home, with Charles Lee officiating.
Private burial will be held at a later date at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
