Billy D. Estes, 84, of Springfield, died at 7:01 pm Monday, April 1, 2013 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born March 15, 1929 in Freeport, IL to Lyle and Pearl Musser Estes. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Carl, Weldon and Charles and one sister, Wanda Jean Zoch.
He was a United States Army Veteran stationed in England during the Korean Conflict. He worked at the Leland Hotel in the 1950’s and 1960’s and was owner/operator of Billy D. Tavern from 1967-1975. Billy moved to Marathon, FL and worked for the Florida Department of Transportation from 1979-2005.
Surviving are a sister, Doris Hurst of Springfield; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins including a nephew, Chad (Amy) Estes of Springfield.
Memorial Gathering: 10-11 am Friday, April 5, 2013 at Staab Funeral Home.
Memorial Service: 11:00 am Friday, April 5, 2013 at Staab Funeral Home with Chaplain Scott Brindley officiating.
Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.
