SPRINGFIELD – Betty L. McCoy, 76, of Springfield died at 2:13 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 25, 2009, at St. John’s Hospital.
She was born Nov. 1, 1932, in Ottumwa, Iowa, the daughter of Frederick W. and Lucille I. Ancell Henry. She married Sheldon J. McCoy on April 19, 1954; he preceded her in death on Aug. 28, 1989.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, Michael Blasko; brother, Kenneth Henry; and a son, John McCoy.
She is survived by a son, James A. (wife, Kelly) McCoy of Springfield; five grandchildren,Jimmy McCoy, Nick McCoy, Lori McCoy and Misty McClure, all of Illinois, and Sgt. Brian (wife, Trisha) Mitchell of Alaska; several great-grandchildren; a sister, Melba Hubbard of Tempe, Ariz.; a brother, Bill (wife, Maureen) Henry of Sherman; an aunt; a niece; two nephews; and special friend, her Yorkie, Baby.
She will be missed by her special friends, Pat (husband, Don) Mitchell, John Adleman and Blanche Anderson.
Betty was a resident of Springfield since 1945. She was employed at Fifth St. Flower Shop for 17 years as a floral designer and was also a homemaker.
She loved her flowers, working at the flower shop, and enjoyed fishing and taking bus trips.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2009, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Staab Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 29, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Staab Funeral Home, with
Dr. Roger Rominger officiating. Burial will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or a charity of the donor’s choice.
