PETERSBURG – Betty Jean Edmonds, 83, of Petersburg, formerly of Riverton, died at 4:30 a.m. Friday, May 8, 2009, at Memorial Medical Center.
She was born Jan. 10, 1926, in Bloomington, the daughter of Frank and Hazel Fisher Patterson. She married James Richard Edmonds in 1950; he preceded her in death in 1993.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and a son, William Naylor Edmonds in 1963.
She is survived by her children, Bob (Barb) Edmonds of Newport Beach, Calif., Jim Edmonds of Muncie, Ind., Jeff (Donna) Edmonds of Chatham, Chris (Jodie) Edmonds of Springfield, Andy (Tammy) Edmonds of Divernon, Kathy (Kelly) Ciota of Riverton, Tim Edmonds of Bradenton, Fla., Mary (Steve) Butts of Riverton, and Diane Edmonds of Monticello, Fla., and Mike Edmonds of Oakland, Calif.; 18 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a brother, Morris (Vickie) Sunkel of Bloomington; and several cousins.
Betty was a resident of the Springfield and Riverton area for over 40 years. She was an airline stewardess for National Airlines and retired from Montgomery Ward in 1991.
She was a member of St. James Church in Riverton. She did volunteer work through the church and was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary of St. James Church. She was devoted to her family.
A memorial gathering will be held from 1 p.m. until the time of memorial mass at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 13, 2009, at Sacred Heart Church in Springfield, with the Rev. Peter Harman officiating.
