Betty J. Mehan, 86, of Sherman, died at 8:10 pm, Tuesday, November 4, 2014 at St. John’s Hospice. She was born June 21, 1928 in Parsons, KS, to Clarence and Mary Ellen White. She married James R. Mehan, Sr. on August 25, 1948 and he preceded her in death on April 12, 2009.
She is survived by her four children, Jay P. Mehan of Cardova, TN, Janica M. (Brent) Baird of Sherman; James “Rob” Mehan, Jr. of Riverton and Jeffery N. (Laura) Mehan of Rochester; eight grandchildren and ten and counting great grandchildren.
Along with her husband her parents preceded her in death.
Betty was a homemaker and worked for Sangamo Electric and retired from Miller Container in Clinton. She was so proud of “Mehan’s Lemonade” which operated at the Illinois State Fair for over 80 years.
She was a member of Salt Creek Patchmakers Quilt Guild in Clinton and was honored as the recipient of the State of Illinois Grant for the quilting apprenticeship through the Ethnics and Folk Art Program during her quilting days.
Visitation: 4-7 pm Thursday, November 6, 2014 at Staab Funeral Home with an additional visitation from 9-9:30, Friday, November 7, 2014 at First United Methodist Church.
Funeral Service: 9:30 am, Friday, November 7, 2014 at First United Methodist Church with Pastor Nicole Cox officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
