Betty J. Gronewold, 84, of Springfield, died at 3:12 p.m., Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at Memorial Medical Center. She was born May 9, 1928 in Springfield, to Fred and Minnie Ulm Pokora. She married Dale E. Gronewold on February 27, 1949 and he survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Gary (Jan) Gronewold of Morton and Larry (Pam) Gronewold of Houston, TX; a daughter in law, Karen (Joe) O’Beirne of Springfield; nine grandchildren, Kristina (Tom) Beazley, Kara (Jeff) Brooks, Timothy (Joy) Gronewold, Jennifer Gronewold, Lindsey (Will) Stanley, Jill (Nick) Stoller, Brooke Gronewold, Leah Gronewold and Barry Linden; eleven great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Her parents; one son, David E. Gronewold and one brother Fred Pokora preceded her in death.
Betty was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church where she was a member of Group Loyal. She liked baking, cooking and spending time with her family.
She had worked for Illinois Bell Telephone before becoming a homemaker and caring for her family. Later in life she also worked at a Tupperware Distributor.
Visitation: 5:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, February 8, 2013 at St. John’s Lutheran Church.
Lie in State: 10:00-11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 9, 2013 at St. John’s Lutheran Church.
Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 9, 2013 at St. John’s Lutheran Church with Pastor Greg Busboom and Pastor Ladd Sonnenberg officiating.
Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
