Betty J. Coy, 90, of Springfield, died on June 20, 2012 at St. John’s Hospice. She was born November 6, 1921 to Harry C. and Juanita Hardin George. She married Lyle G. Coy on February 6, 1942 and he preceded her in death in June of 1992. She is also preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Donna Fletcher; one son, Walter Coy; one great grandson, Trevor Scattergood; one brother, Harry “Chet” George, Jr.; one brother-in-law, Gene Boggs;
She is survived by three sons: Dennis (Judy) Coy of Englewood, FL, Steven (Connie) Coy of Cortez, CO and Thomas B. (Kimber) Coy of Alpine Valley, WY; one son-in-law Gordon Fletcher of Mentemora, IL; 15 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren; two sisters: Helen (Gordon) Gustavson of Keokuk, IA and Bonnie Boggs of Riverton, IL; one brother: Larry (Irene “Midge”) George of Springfield, IL; one sister-in-law: Wanda George of El Paso, IL; and several nieces and nephews.
Betty was a member of West Side Christian Church where she was a former member of the Golden Tones and T.N.T. Sunday School Class. She was also a member of AARP and Red Hat Society, and sang with the singing group at the Presbyterian Home. She loved fishing and dressing up. She was a lifetime resident of Springfield and was employed at Federated Funeral Directors and Coy Garden Center.
Visitation: 9-11 a.m., Saturday, June 23, 2012 at Staab Funeral Home.
Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 23, 2012 at Staab Funeral Home with Reverend Dennis C. Coy, Jr. officiating. Private burial will be held later in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
