Betty E. Geist, 87, of Springfield, died at 2:25 am, Wednesday, January 1, 2014 at St. John’s Hospice. She was born October 3, 1926 in Springfield, Illinois to Robert I and Elma E. Marshall Williams. She married Robert L. Geist on February 3, 1951 and he preceded her in death on March 3, 1994.
She is survived by four daughters, Kathleen (Robert) Hermon of Pleasant Plains, Janet (Gene) Tannehill of Springfield, Sandra Sunley of Springfield and Lisa (Chris) Schafer of Springfield; five sons, Daniel (Elaine) Geist of Springfield, Tim (Carol) Geist of Springfield, Jeff Geist of Cedar Rapids, IA, Kevin (Karen) Geist of Riverton and Steve (Faye) Geist of Pleasant Plains; nineteen grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; one sister, Judy (Glen) Osborne of Decatur; two brothers, Boyd (Rose) Williams and Bill (Fran) Williams both of Springfield and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Her parents and husband preceded her in death.
Betty enjoyed sewing, crafting and bowling in her younger years. She was a member of DAV Auxiliary and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.
She was a homemaker and had previously worked for the Shoe Factory.
Visitation: 4-7 pm, Sunday, January 5, 2014 at Staab Funeral Home.
Funeral Service: 12 pm, Monday, January 6, 2014 at Staab Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Gifford officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
