SPRINGFIELD – Bette C. Martin, 85, of Springfield died at 5:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2009, at her residence.
She was born Feb. 18, 1924, in Normal, the daughter of Adelai S. and Pearl Schulze Christ. She married Darrell Bud Martin on June 22, 1943.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Eugene Christ.
She is survived by her husband, Darrell Bud Martin of Springfield; a daughter, Suzanne (David) Voegtlin of DeWitt; two sons, Craig L. (Julia) Martin of Orion and Steven R. Martin of Springfield; eight grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-granddaughters.
Bette was a resident of Springfield since 1955.
She formerly worked for Consolidated Aircraft, building B-24 Bombers. She then worked for Admiral TV in Bloomington as an assembler. Upon moving to Springfield she worked for Tractor Supply Co. as an office manager for several years.
Bette was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church and a lifetime member of Aqua Sports Club. She enjoyed ballroom dancing and her greatest pastime was shopping. She was an elephant collector and she enjoyed spending time with her grandkids.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009, at Staab Funeral Home. Graveside services will be at noon Wednesday, October 28, 2009, at Camp Butler National Cemetery, with Kathy A. Swaar, CLP, officiating.
Memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association.
