Bette A. Richey, 71, of Springfield, IL, died at 5:21 am, Thursday, January 27, 2011 at St. John’s Hospice. She was born June 10, 1939 in Pana, IL to Walter and Lorraine Pieper Shoraga. They preceded her in death as well as one brother Loyal (Shoraga) Oltmanns.
Bette is survived by two sons, Michael A. (Mary) Richey and their children Michael P. and Matthew A. Richey of Springfield, Todd F. Richey and his children Raymond E. and Krista M. Richey of Springfield; two sisters Helen Hill of Pana, IL and Clara (Bobby) Peck of Dixon, IL; one brother Norvell “Sonny” (Victoria) Shoraga of Springfield and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Also surviving are Bette’s two granddogs, Bailey Shamrock and Sierra Breo Richey.
Bette began working in the podiatry field at the age of 17 beginning with Dr. Paul Mahaffey for 10 years. Bette next worked with with Dr. James D. Wall from 1968 until 1985 during which she became a PAC under his mentoring. From 1985-1994 she worked as a PAC for Dr. Theodore Andreasen and Dr. John Schoudel who interned with Dr. Andreasen from 1991-1994. From 1994 until her retirement in 2008 she was a phlebotomist for Mason District Hospital in Havana, IL. Bette was of the Catholic faith and was also a member of Eagles Aerie 437.
