RIVERTON – Bessie Marie Nail, 94, of Riverton died at 4:35 p.m. Tuesday, April 13, 2010, at Memorial Medical Center.
She was born Jan. 31, 1916, in Springfield, the daughter of Harvey and Anna M. Hinrich Wolf. She married Elvis E. Nail Sr. on August 5, 1936; he preceded her in death on July 3, 1978.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Cory Nail; and three brothers, Lester, Fred and Harvey Wolf.
She is survived by four daughters, Beverly (Phil) Pinney, Carol (Gary, deceased) Watson, and Terry (Mike) Layden, all of Riverton, and Jackie (Hugh) Ollech of Springfield; a son, Elvis (partner, Dennis Peyton) Nail Jr. of Cincinnati; 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; two sister-in-laws, Sue Wolf and Melvena Denardo; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Bessie was a lifelong resident of the Springfield-Riverton area. She was employed as a bus driver for the Riverton School System.
She was a member of Riverton Methodist Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family and attending her grandkids’ sporting activities. She was affectionately known as Grandma by everyone. She enjoyed watching the Illini and the Cardinals and even the Cubs.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 17, 2010, at Staab Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jonathan Dixon officiating. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park.
