SPRINGFIELD – Bertha M. Wilson, 96, of Springfield died at 4:20 p.m. Monday, Aug. 3, 2009, at St. John’s Hospice.
She was born Oct. 10, 1912, in Springfield, the daughter of Charles and Mary Lawson Corven.
She married George G. Wilson on June 21, 1932, and he preceded her in death on Sept. 10, 1996. Also preceding her in death were her parents; three sisters, Myrtle Armstrong, Agnes Wilde and Dorothy Livingston; and son-in-law, Dwight Woodrum.
Mrs. Wilson, a lifelong resident of Springfield, was a homemaker and also had worked for Sangamo and Hobbs.
She was a member of Lakeside Christian Church and loved playing cards, bingo and bowling.
Surviving are her twin daughters, Marlene M. (husband, Charles L.) Neal of Riverton and Arlene Woodrum of Petersburg; five grandchildren, Sandra (husband, David) Colborn, Doreen Hilbert, Mike Woodrum, Terri (husband, Tom) Gardner and Jane (husband, Hal) Schirding; 11 great-grandchildren, Lindsey, Chelsea, Alan, Jared, Jason, Jon, Tony, Joel, Christopher, Daniel, and Nathan; one great-great-grandchild, Tony; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 10 – 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 5, 2009, at Staab Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 5, 2009, at Staab Funeral Home, with Pastor Jay Brooks officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
The family requests donations be made to Lewis Memorial Christian Village.
