Bernard Paul Saner, age 67 of Springfield, IL died at 8:22 p.m. Friday, October 15, 2010 at North Hawaii Community Hospital in Kamuela, Hawaii. He was born on February 27, 1943 in Springfield, IL to Leo Benedict and Mary Mabel Arthalony Saner. He married Sharon Sue Lasko on October 5, 1968. He is preceded in death by his parents and 1 sister; Judith.
He is survived by his wife Sharon of Springfield, 3 daughters Stacie (Rob) Anagnostis of Columbus, OH; Deborah Saner (Christopher Pemberton) of Vancouver, WA and Amy (Michael) Reardon of Rochester, IL; 1 granddaughter Caroline Elizabeth Reardon; 2 sisters Mary Ellen (Henry) Schmidt of Lake Petersburg and Tina (David) Symon of Woodinville, WA; 2 brothers John (Amelia) Saner and Robert (Beatrice) Saner both of Springfield and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Springfield resident all of his life he retired from the Illinois Department of Revenue and also worked 15 years at Complete Care Systems. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran. He was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church in Rochester; Spring River Club, AARP, Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum Foundation and volunteered at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and for many years voluntarily did taxes for the underserved and the elderly. He was a graduate of Feitschens High School, Lincoln Land Community College and Federal Law Enforcement Training Center. His passion was animals. He loved to fish, read and play the guitar.
Visitation: 5-7 pm Sunday, October 24, 2010 at Staab Funeral Home with prayers at 5pm.
Funeral Mass: 10:30 am, Monday, October 25, 2010 at St. Jude Catholic Church in Rochester with Reverend R. Dean Probst officiating. Burial will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery where Sangamon County Interveterans will conduct military honors.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Animal Protective League in Springfield, IL
