Bernard Joseph (Bernie) Lindsey, age 73, of Springfield died at 8:00 pm Monday, March 22, 2010 at St. John’s Hospice. He was born August 27, 1936 in Springfield, the son of Harry L. and Agnes Senger Lindsey. He married Catherine(Kay) Ramsey on July 13, 1957.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Catherine (Kay) of Springfield; 2 daughters, Lori Ann (Nick) VonBehren and Elizabeth ( Ken) Tupy both of Springfield; 2 sons, Bernie (Mayumi) Lindsey of San Diego, CA and J. Michael (Lisa) Lindsey of Springfield; 4 grandchildren, Brian (BJ)(Megan) Eairheart, Lindsey Marie Eairheart, Taylor Marie Lindsey and Catherine Michelle Lindsey all of Springfield; 1 great-granddaughter, Emma Katherine Eairheart of Springfield; 2 sisters, LaVerne Harvey and Mary Lynn Porter both of Springfield; 1 brother, Thomas (Paula) Lindsey of Danville, IN and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mr. Lindsey was a lifelong resident of Springfield. He was owner and operator of Lindsey Electric Inc. He was a member of Church of the Little Flower. He graduated from Sacred Heart Grade School and Cathedral Boys High School. He attended University of Illinois and Purdue University. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus 4179 and the Springfield Motor Boat Club.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, March 25, 2010 at Staab Funeral Home. There will be a lie-in-state from 9:00 until time of Funeral Mass at 10:00 am Friday, March 26, 2010 at Church of the Little Flower with Reverend Richard Chiola officiating. Private burial will be at Calvary Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be made to Little Flower School or St. Joseph’s School.
