SPRINGFIELD – Bernadine Amelia Haley, 90, of Springfield died at 12:21 p.m. Tuesday, March 31, 2009, at St. John’s Hospital.
She was born March 21, 1919, in Springfield, the daughter of Frank J. and Annastacia Muller Fleck Sr. She married Paul H. Haley Sr. on April 15, 1939; he preceded her in death on Feb. 10, 2007. Also preceding her in death were her parents; a daughter, Judith Brewer; great-granddaughter, Abigail Lind; grandson, Donald Brewer; brother, Frank Bud Fleck; and two sisters, Marguerite Schmidt and Dorothy McCarty.
Mrs. Haley, a resident of Springfield most of her life, was a waitress for many years in Springfield’s finest restaurants including the Top of the Arch, etc.
She enjoyed her rose garden, was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
Surviving are two daughters, Pauline Jean (husband, Robert) Haley of Springfield and Beverly Sue Bartley of Clawson, Mich.; a son, Paul H. Haley Jr. (wife, Dawn) of Springfield; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Bertha Lederle of Springfield, Clara Dolence of Florida, Lorraine Fleck of Springfield and Audrey Knight of Springfield; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 3, 2009, at Staab Funeral Home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 4, 2009, at Staab Funeral Home with Monsignor Thomas Holinga officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
