Benedetto J. Mazzola, 84, of Springfield died at 1:48 pm, Friday, November 29, 2013 at St. John’s Hospital. He was born September 22, 1929, in St. Louis, MO, to Luigi and Onorata “Nora” (Badalamenti) Mazzola. He grew up between Sicily and New York.

His parents and daughter Phyllis and a brother preceded him in death. He married Marianne Impastato on July 14, 1956 and she survives.

Also surviving are one daughter Nora (Angelo) Porrovecchio of Lake in the Hills, IL.; and three grandchildren Sofia; Daniela and Analisa; nine nieces and nephews; Giacomo “Jimmy” Impastato; Phyllis Impastato Ansley; Vito Impastato; Peter Impastato; Grace Impastato Bouillion; Mary Jo Impastato; Antonette Manzella Berger; Josephine Manzella Zoppis ; Matt Manzella and several great nieces and nephews.

He was a member of Christ the King Church. He worked as a printer at Schnepp and Barnes. Benedetto was a member of the Roman Cultural Society; he loved to cook and was a Samaritan at St. John’s Hospital. He was a United States Army Veteran during the Korean War.

Visitation: 4 – 7 pm, Sunday, December 8, 2013 at Staab Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 4 pm.

Lie in State: 10 – 11 am, Monday, December 9, 2013 at Christ the King Church.

Funeral Mass: 11 am, Monday, December 9, 2013 at Christ the King Church with Reverend Joseph Ring officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery where
Sangamon County Interveterans Burial Detail will conduct military honors.

Memorial contributions may be made to Friends of St. John’s for the Samaritans.
