SPRINGFIELD – Barry M. Scarlett, 66, a lifelong resident of Springfield, died at 3:35 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 8, 2009, at St. John’s Hospice.
He was born Oct. 26, 1942, in Danville, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Scarlett. He married Sharon Howlett on May 30, 1964.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Jason; and a great-grandson, Kaiden.
Mr. Scarlett worked in bridge supervision for the Illinois Department of Transportation, retiring after 35 years of service.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran and a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church.
He was a wonderful, caring husband, father and grandfather. He loved to paint ceramic clowns.
Surviving are his wife, Sharon; a daughter, Dana (husband, Keith) Klockenga of Springfield; two sons, Daniel Scarlett (fiancee, Crystal) of North Carolina and Richard (wife, Lori) Howlett of Springfield; four grandchildren, Ian, Bradley, Brandon (fiancee, Niki) and Brittany; a sister, Dee (husband, Charles) Tippy of Springfield; a brother, David of California; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial gathering will be held from 11 a.m. until time of memorial service at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13, 2009, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, with Pastor Greg Busboom officiating.
