Barbara Tarr, 93, of Springfield, IL, died at 1:35 a.m. on Friday, March 1, 2013 at Regency Nursing Care.
Mrs. Tarr was born on December 19, 1919 in Springfield to Joseph and Barbara Tomanseck Sabo. She married Elmer J. Tarr in 1939 and he preceded her in death on March 15, 1995. She is also preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Catherine Mitch and Anna Schroeder and three brothers, Paul, George and Joseph Sabo.
Survivors include her daughter, JoAnn “Jodie” (Rex) Rowley of Sherman; two sons, James E. (Mary Susan) Tarr of Carbondale and Michael W. (Shelley) Tarr of Springfield; ten grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild and one on the way; a sister, Carolyn Daley of Springfield; one brother, Carl (Rita) Sabo of Springfield and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was a former member of Sts. Peter and Paul Church and currently belongs to St. Joseph Church. Her hobbies included playing BUNCO, watching her favorite baseball team, the Chicago Cubs, cooking and baking her signature pies and spending time with her family, which meant everything to her.
She also worked for 21 years as the owner/operator of Tarr’s Snack Bar alongside her beloved husband, Elmer.
The family of Barbara would like to thank the staff of Regency Nursing Care Residence for their loving and compassionate care during her stay.
Visitation: 4:00-6:00 p.m. Sunday, March 3, 2013 at Staab Funeral Home with a prayer service at 4 p.m.
Lie-in-State: 9:30-10:00 a.m. Monday, March 4, 2013 at St. Joseph Church.
Funeral Mass: 10 am Monday, March 4, 2013 at St. Joseph Church with Monsignor Thomas Holinga officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Memorial Medical Center-VNA Home Hospice or St. Josephs Church.
