Barbara K. McGee, 91, of Springfield, died at 1:05 am, Sunday, October 9, 2016 at Memorial Medical Center. She was born January 18, 1925 in Carlinville, IL to John Kaufman and Mary Flori. She married Thomas R. McGee on October 1, 1955 at Blessed Sacrament Church and he survives.
She is also survived by six children: Barbara Lieber (Lincoln, Jr.) of Quincy, Mike McGee of Buffalo, Jim McGee of Chicago, Susan Ochoa (Michael) of Chicago, Nancy McGee of Lake St. Louis, MO and Tom McGee (Chris Deloney) of Springfield; seven grandchildren: Michael Lieber of Richmond, VA, Mike McGee, Jr. of Springfield, Danny McGee (Fiancé Courtney Scaife) of Springfield, Chris McGee (Samantha) of Springfield, Elizabeth Powers (Matt) of Springfield, Megan Ochoa of Chicago, and Nikki McGee, Nashville, TN; seven great-grandchildren: Gigi, Ruby, Lucy, Owen and Thomas McGee, Max and Sully Powers, all of Springfield; sister, Mary Ann O’Shea (Patrick) Wilbraham, MA, cousin Robert Flori of Chicago, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by parents.
She was a member of The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception for 58 years. Barbara worked in the office at the Sangamon Ordinance Plant in Illiopolis during WWII. Later, she worked 10 years at the Springfield FBI office, completing her service as the secretary to the Special Agent in Charge. After raising her six children she worked at the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency for 22 years, retiring in 1997.
Visitation: 5 – 7 pm, Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield. A prayer service will be held at 5:00 pm.
Funeral Mass: 10 am, Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception with Reverend Braden Maher officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Illiopolis, IL.
