Barbara Jean Bayer, 89, of Springfield, died at 11:42 pm, Friday, July 15, 2016 at Lewis Memorial Christian Village. She was born on June 1, 1927 in Springfield, to Valentine and Blanche (Warmoth) Schmitt. She married Robert C. Bayer on November 26, 1960 and he preceded her in death on December 19, 1991. Also preceding her in death were her parents; two brothers, Donald and Louis Schmitt; a sister, Blanche Forbes; two nieces, Carolyn Sue O’Connell and Janice Marie Fulganetti and one nephew, Wayne Thomas Forbes.
Survivors include four nieces, Deborah Lynn Sirtout, Linda Lou Hoover, Cynthia Catherine Bartnick and Diana Janeen Neal; two nephews, David Lee Forbes and Donald L. Schmitt and two great nephews, Jim and Joseph O’Connell.
Barbara was a lifelong resident of Springfield. She was a 60 year member of Sacred Heart Church and was currently a member of St. Agnes Church for the past 22 years. She liked to knit and read and was a fantastic cook. She graduated from Ursuline Academy in 1945. She worked at Sangamo Electric for 14 years and was also a homemaker.
Visitation: 9-10 am, Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at St. Agnes Church.
Funeral Mass: 10:00 am, Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at St. Agnes Church with Reverend Robert Jallas officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

Aunt Barb was unique in her own way, very independant all her life,& was very outspoken.She was also kind and caring ,she my mother's sister& we loved her very much.RIP my dear auntie. love you, Linda lou.
