SPRINGFIELD – Barbara Joan Figueroa, 81, of Springfield passed away at 6:33 a.m. Monday, Nov. 19, 2007, at her residence.
She was born Feb. 23, 1926, in Toledo, Ohio, the daughter of Clarence J. and Ruth Elizabeth Jones deGoveia. She was a member of Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and the National Executive Housekeepers Association. She worked for the U.S. government as a USO entertainer, traveling extensively for many years to more than 22 countries. She served as an executive housekeeper for 12 years at various hotels, was a certified nursing assistant, co-owned and operated the Discount Home Center and finally was employed by Cub Foods.
She was married to Louis J. Kamees and later married Jack L. Figueroa; both preceded her in death, as did her parents and a son, Kalina Lopa.
She is survived by two daughters, Mary Carol (husband, Walter) Faulkner and Judie Ghere, both of Springfield; three grandchildren, Todd M. (wife, Beth) Faulkner of Springfield, Gina L. (husband, Bruce) Lair of Virden and Robert D. Ghere of Springfield; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Lois (husband, Paul) Frey of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and -nephews.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2007, at Staab Funeral Home, 1109 S. Fifth St. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2007, at Staab Funeral Home, with the Rev. Michael Haag officiating. Entombment will follow in Oak Ridge Abbey.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
