Asa S. Alstott, 96, of Springfield, Illinois, passed away on Monday, January 14, 2013, at Memorial Medical Center. Asa was born July 22, 1916, in Bulpitt, Illinois, to Logan and Myrtle Alstott. He married Leona Grassel on December 8, 1949, in Pontiac, Illinois. She preceded him in death on August 4, 1990. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Rebecca “Becky” Sasaki, on March 7, 2010.
Asa is survived by two sons, Ted (Debbie) Alstott, of Springfield, and Mark Alstott, of Springfield, and a daughter, Sarah (Mark) Peters, of Springfield. Also surviving are ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Mr. Alstott attended Illinois State University and served in the U.S. Army. He worked as trainmaster and superintendent of Chicago & Illinois Midland Railroad, retiring after 50 years of service.
He was a member of West Side Christian Church and the Beau Knots class.
Memorial Gathering: 11am – 1 pm, Saturday, January 19, 2013 at Staab Funeral Home.
Memorial Service: 1 pm, Saturday, January 19, 2013 at Staab Funeral Home with Minister Ken Gennicks officiating.
Private burial will be held at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors.
