Arlene Mae Stapleton, 94, of Springfield, died at 9:57 a.m., Saturday, June 6, 2015.
She was born on April 9, 1921 in Sibley, IL to James and Iva Grimm Thompson. She married E. Pat Stapleton on December 4, 1943 and he preceded her in death on January 31, 2012. She is also preceded in death by her parents, daughter Mary Louise, daughter-in-law, Martha Stapleton, and two brothers, George and Del Thompson.

Arlene is survived by her children: Ed (Bobbie) Stapleton of Evans, GA; Jean (Bob) Stapleton-McKinzie of Springfield; Ron (Kathy Hagen) Stapleton of Springfield; Carol (Mark) Stapleton of Springfield; and Dennis Stapleton of Jacksonville; sixteen grandchildren: Erin, Michaela, Moira, Craig, Patrick, Brenna, Shannon, Nathan, Tara, Amanda, Padraic, Callan, Kevan, Cressida, Miranda and Jim; ten great-grandchildren: Mary, Oliver, Hugo, Asher, Logan, Conrad, Elizabeth, Liam, Alexander, Jacob and one on the way, Hagen, and several nieces and nephews.

Arlene was a homemaker and a member of Blessed Sacrament Church. She was a member of the Linger Longers Club. She enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, reading, watching Cubs baseball and old movies, sewing, needle point and embroidery.

Visitation: 4-7 p.m., Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at Staab Funeral Home.

Funeral Mass: 11 a.m. Thursday, June 11, 2015 at Blessed Sacrament Church with Reverend Jeff Grant officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in New Berlin, IL.

Memorial Contributions may be made to Blessed Sacrament Church or Daily Bread c/o Senior Center of Sangamon County.
