Anthony John “Tony” Leonetti, 94, of Sherman, died at 7:25 pm, Monday, March 10, 2014 at Villa Health Care East. He was born December 15, 1919, in Sherman to Tony and Nastasia Michalone Leonetti. He married Nora Lue Miller July 6, 1944 and she preceded him in death June 16, 2013.
Also preceding him in death were four brothers, Frank and Adolph Leonetti and Amato and Henry Gazza, twin sister, Rose Harvey, two sisters, Lena Polistina and Mary Leonetti.
Survivors include a daughter, Amber Lue (James) Boehm of Springfield; son Timothy J. (Christina) Leonetti of Sherman; five grandchildren, Angelina Leonetti, Nick Leonetti, Peter (Dawn) Leonetti, James (Nikki) Boehm, and Erich (Ashley) Boehm; five great-grandchildren; brother Sam Leonetti of Egg Harbour, NJ and several nieces and nephews.
Tony was a US Army Air Corps Veteran serving during WWII. He was a member of St. John Vianney Church in Sherman. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Riverton Marion Council and a Republican Precinct Committeeman for 28 years and was district chairman of District 2. He retired in 1979 after 31 years as a welder at Fiat. He served on the Sangamon County Board for 14 years. Tony was a member of the World War II memorial committee.
Visitation: 4 – 7 pm, Thursday, march 13, 2014 at Staab Funeral Home with a prayer service at 4pm.
Funeral Mass: 10:30 am Friday, March 14, 2014 at St. John Vianney Church in Sherman with Monsignor David Lantz officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.
Memorials may be given to St. John Vianney Church.
