Anna Maude Peel, 90, of Petersburg, died at 12:20 a.m., Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at Sunny Acres Nursing Home in Petersburg, Illinois. She was born October 16, 1922 in Alexander, to Orville and Marie Shockey. She married Robert Peel in 1943 and he preceded her in death in 1983.
Her parents; one brother, Garnet Shockey and one sister, Annette Fentem also preceded her in death.
Survivors include one daughter, Anna Christine (Don) Starrett of Forrest City, IL; three sons, Steven (JoAnn) Peel and Greg (Patty) Peel both of Springfield and Roger (Deborah) Peel of Milaca MN; several grandchildren; several great grandchildren; one brother, Joe (Leona) Shockey of Decatur and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Anna was a member of Elliott Avenue Baptist Church. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and former member of D.A.R and DAV Auxiliary. She volunteered at Memorial Medical Center and St. John’s Hospital. She loved reading and working puzzle books.
She was a lifelong resident of Springfield and retired from the State Journal-Register where she worked for sixteen years as a receptionist.
Visitation: 11a.m. – 12p.m., Monday, February 25, 2013 at Staab Funeral Home.
Funeral Service: 12 p.m., Monday, February 25, 2013 at Staab Funeral Home with Pastor Robert Gebhardt officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
