SPRINGFIELD – Andrew A. Leinum, 84, of Springfield died at 7:24 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008, at Memorial Medical Center.
He was born March 5, 1924, in Wolverton, Minn., the son of Anton and Hilda Berg Leinum. He married Marilyn Kirkland in 1947; she passed away in 1997. He later married Anna Staber in 2004.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; daughter, Leann Leinum; son, Gary Leinum; and son-in-law, Jim Cripe.
He is survived by his wife, Anna E. Leinum; three daughters, Becky (companion, John Simmons) Podeschi of Taylorville, Lynn Leinum of Springfield and Laura Cripe of Crystal Lake; a stepdaughter, Deborah (Tony) Merrick of Dawson; a son, David (Karen) Leinum of Springfield; a stepson, David Kinnaman of Denver; 12 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; sisters, Edith, Alice and Donna; brothers, Robert, Dennis, Virgil and Floyd.
Andrew was a resident of Springfield since 1959. He worked at Pillsbury Mills as a maintenance foreman. He retired in 1986.
He served in the Army during World War II. He was a member of South Side Christian Church. He enjoyed golfing, bowling and gardening. He was a lifetime member of the DAV and he also belonged to the Elks Lodge.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2008, at Staab Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2008, at Staab Funeral Home, with Pastor Jeff Chitwood officiating.
Burial will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery, where the Sangamon County Interveterans Burial Detail will conduct honors.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
