Alio Joseph "Al" Giacomini

Alio “Al” Joseph Giacomini, 92, of Springfield, died at 1:25 pm, Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at St. John’s Hospice. He was born December 23, 1923 in Springfield to Giovanni (John) and Josephine Paoni Giacomini. He married Janice Irene Berberet June 8, 1946 and she preceded him in death on July 3, 2002. Also preceding him in death were his parents, one infant son, James Giacomini and great granddaughter, Hope Blade.

Surviving are two daughters, Mary (Don) Requarth Wohlers and Cindy (Tim) Timoney, both of Springfield; five sons, John (Kathleen) Giacomini and Tom (Rosemarie) Giacomini, both of Springfield, Al (Marian) Giacomini of Virginia, IL, Bob (Cheryl) Giacomini of New Berlin and Richard “Pete” (Mary) Giacomini of Chatham; 21 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren with 5 on the way; one sister, Della Maurer of Sherman, good friend, Louise Donaldson of Springfield and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Al was a member of St. Aloysius Church and Knights of Columbus Council #4175 where he had been a Grand Knight. He was a United States Navy Veteran serving during World War II. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, playing cards and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. Al owned A.J. Giacomini and Sons Home Builders and was previously employed by Vredenburgh Home Builders.

Visitation: 9-10:45 am Saturday, September 3, 2016 at St. Aloysius Church.

Funeral Mass: 11:00 am, Saturday, September 3, 2016 at St. Aloysius Church with Reverend Clinton Honkomp O.P. officiating.

Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, where the U.S. Navy will conduct military honors.
