JACKSONVILLE – Alice N. Carter, 67, a resident of Jacksonville for the past 3 1/2 years, formerly of Springfield, died at 2:11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2007, at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville.
She was born Feb. 24, 1940, in Springfield, the daughter of James L. and Oleta Irwin Porter. She married Charles Carter in 1959; he preceded her in death in 1986. Her parents; an infant sister; and a brother, James Carter, also preceded her in death.
Mrs. Carter worked for St. John’s Hospital and Memorial Medical Center in housekeeping, laundry and clerical, retiring after 40 years. She was a member of the American Diabetes Foundation. She enjoyed cooking.
Surviving are two sons, Charles Carter of Jacksonville and Christopher Carter (fiancee, Kimberly Clark) of Springfield; two grandchildren, Kaine Carter and Jessica Helton; two great-grandchildren; and brother, James O. Porter of Springfield.
Private services will be held.
Staab Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
