Alice L. Arnett, 96, of Springfield, Illinois, died at 2:25 p.m., Sunday, February 17, 2013, at St. John’s Hospital. She was born April 24, 1916 in Benton County, MO, to David R. and Mabel A. Darnall Johnstone. She married Oral S. Arnett, Jr. in 1942 and he preceded her in death in 1970.
Her parents; one brother, Harold Johnstone and three sisters, Ila Cunningham, Velma Sutton and Margaret Smith also preceded her in death.
Survivors include two daughters, Marilyn Vance and Jan (Barry) Huson both of
Springfield; one grandson, Cody Huson of Springfield; four sisters, Lucille Wise of Tampa, FL, Mary Fowler of Edmond, OK, Virginia Peratt of Bradenton, FL and Bea Guenther of Springfield and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Alice was a 63 year member of West Side Christian Church, joining on Christmas Day of 1949. She was a member of Sangamon County Home Extension for over fifty years. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, gardening, flower arranging, sewing, traveling; taking rides in the county and spending time at Washington Park. She was a graduate of Williamsville High School and attended Brown’s Business College, then worked at Sangamo Electric and retired from the State of Illinois Department of Revenue.
Visitation: 10-11 a.m., Friday, February 22, 2013 at Staab Funeral Home.
Funeral Service: 11 a.m., Friday, February 22, 2013 at Staab Funeral Home with Pastor Gary Winkleman officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions may be made to West Side Christian Church or to a charity of the Donor’s choice.
