Alice Bohlmeyer Jenkins, 92, of Springfield, died at 11:40 am, Thursday, May 1, 2014 at Memorial Medical Center. She was born July 2, 1921 in Macoupin County, to Otto and Mesina Barnes Bohlmeyer. She married John “Jack” Jenkins on May 27, 1943 and he survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Susan (Jake) Goodrich of Peoria and Nancy (Harvey) Dunham of Springfield; one son, John Jenkins of Austin, TX; eight grandchildren, Karen (Richard) Long, Aleasa and Rebecca Atwood, John, Andrew and Chris Jenkins and Laura and Amy Sorensen; one great grandson, Michael Long and one sister, Julia Mathies of Girard.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Charles William Bohlmeyer and one daughter, Linda K. Sorensen.
Alice was a member of Douglas Avenue United Methodist Church where she was an active member of the Women’s Society. She was an avid quilter and belonged to the Calico Squares. She also belonged to several different organizations including a Pinochle club that met for over 40 years.
Alice’s life was spent as a devoted and supportive wife, mother and grandmother to her family.
Visitation: 9-10:30 am, Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at Staab Funeral Home.
Funeral Service: 10:30 am, Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at Staab Funeral Home with Reverend Julia Melgreen officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
