Alfred W. “Curley” Hurrelbrink, II, 91, of Springfield, died at 11:20 a.m., Friday, January 20, 2017 at Regency Care. He was born on January 4, 1926 to Alfred W. and Helen Louise Hurrelbrink, Sr. He married Vianna “Nan” O’Connor on January 11, 1946 and she survives.

Also surviving are one son: David (Michele) Hurrelbrink of Cape Coral, FL; one daughter: Diane Hurrelbrink of Springfield; one daughter-in-law, Pam Hurrelbrink of Goodyear, AZ; five grandchildren: Scott (Wendy) Hurrelbrink, Stephanie (John) Danna, Donnie (Katie) Hurrelbrink, Bridgette (Alex) Ingram, and Barbara (Brandon) Smith; seven great-grandchildren: Ella, Andrew, Walker, Jillian, Annie, Evan, and Andrew; and one sister: Marie Davis.

He is preceded in death by his parents; one son: Alfred “Bill” Hurrelbrink, III; one daughter: JoAnn Hurrelbrink; one sister: Ida Kopatz; and one brother: Harold Hurrelbrink.

Al served in the United States Navy during World War II and attended junior college upon his return. With his wife, Nan, he owned and operated Curley’s Lounge for 25 years. He was also employed by Guiffre Buick and retired from the State of Illinois Department of Natural Resources at age 76 as an Exec. 3.

Al was appointed to Mayor Karen Hasara’s 2020 Committee and to a civic board under Mayor Ozzie Langfelder. Through the years he was president of three different organizations. He was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Chatham.

Visitation: 4-7 p.m., Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at Staab Funeral Home-Springfield. A prayer service being held at 4 p.m. with Reverend John Nolan officiating.

Private family services will be held at Calvary Cemetery.

Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Chatham or Charity of Donor’s Choice.
