SPRINGFIELD – Alfred Lewis Capranica, 80, a lifelong resident of Springfield, died at 3:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 23, 2007, at St. John’s Hospice.
He was born May 11, 1927, in Springfield, the son of Silvio and Rose Ghilardi Capranica. He married Ann Nohe on June 21, 1952; she preceded him in death on June 17, 1982. His brothers, Vince, Joseph and Dave Capranica; and sisters, Florence Lozzi and Joanne Paul, also preceded him in death.
Mr. Capranica owned and operated Alcap Tile Co. for 45 years. He was a member of the Coast Guard, serving during World War II from 1943 to 1945. He loved gardening, woodworking and was an avid chef. He was a wonderful father and grandfather.
Surviving are his daughters, Linda (husband, Augie) Casson of Williamsville, Cathy (husband, David) Haney of Springfield and Laura Capranica of Williamsville; sons, James Capranica (companion, Jeannie Jones), Michael Capranica and Nick (wife, Dawn) Capranica, all of Springfield, and Victor (wife, Susan) Capranica of Williamsville; 16 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2007, at Staab Funeral Home. Services will be at noon Tuesday at Staab Funeral Home, with Monsignor Carl Kemme officiating. Burial will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery, with the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County conducting military honors.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
