Alfred Hollinshead, Jr., 94, of Springfield died at 7 am on Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at his home. He was born September 13, 1923 in Springfield to Alfred and Hazel (Bauereiss) Hollinshead, Sr. He married June M. Sheperd in 1947 and she preceded him in death on October 10, 1994.
He is survived by his five children; Raymond A. (Patricia) Hollinshead, Carol (J.) Paris, David J. Hollinshead and James B. Hollinshead, all of Springfield, and Mary Ann (Dave) Roth of Glenarm; thirteen grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; one sister, Donna Sternbergh of Springfield and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his wife; granddaughter, Emilee; two infant sons; two brothers, Robert and Jack; and one sister, Hazel Mary.
Alfred was a U.S. Marine during World War II serving with the 2nd Marine Division in the 1st wave in the Battle of Saipan.
He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and a fast pitch softball player. He was also a member of the VFW Post #755 and the Springfield Ski and Boat Club.
Private family services will be held.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
