Albin J. Schuster, 91, of Springfield died at 8:20 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2008, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy.
He was born April 13, 1916, in Springfield, the son of Joseph and Mary Pusch Schuster. He married Ruth Clemens in 1948; she preceded him in death in July 1976. Also preceding him in death were his parents; and two brothers, Joseph and Luke Schuster.
Mr. Schuster, a resident of Springfield most of his life, worked for Allis-Chalmers, Hummer Manufacturing as an inspector and Caterpillar Inc. in Peoria. He was owner of Jay Home Portraits for 35 years, retiring in 1983.
He was a Army veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific, where he received a Purple Heart, two battle stars, an Arrowhead and a Bronze Star. He was a member of St. Agnes Church, the VFW, American Legion and Hayes-Krell Memorial Chapter 159, Military Order of the Purple Heart.
Surviving are a daughter, Sharon (husband, James) Ricke of Lebanon, Ore.; a son, Robert (wife, Janice) Schuster of McNabb; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, April 6, 2008, at Staab Funeral Home with prayers at 5 p.m. Funeral Mass will be at 12:30 p.m. Monday, April 7, 2008, at Staab Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Jallas officiating. Burial will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery, where the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will conduct military honors.
