SPRINGFIELD – Agnes E. Aggie Madonia Hill, 86, of Springfield died at 12:44 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, 2008, at St. John’s Hospital.
Agnes Aggie was born in Springfield, the daughter of Salvatore Sam and Grace Leone Madonia on July 3, 1922. A lifetime resident of Springfield, she married Frederick B. Hill on June 7, 1947.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Hill on Dec. 14, 1996, and her daughter, Cynthia Ann Hill, on July 3, 2005. Also preceding her in death were her parents, Sam and Grace Madonia; brothers, Tony, Joseph Peno and Sevet Madonia; and her sisters, Rose and Josephine Madonia and Ann Madonia-Fox.
Agnes was very family-oriented with a generous heart. Her faith and family were the center of her life. When the family home got too small for family gatherings, she opened up her home to host Thanksgiving dinners and other special events, which became all-day affairs. Fred and Aggie always welcomed overflowing guests. An immaculate housekeeper, she loved to cook, bake and work in her yard.
She was a member of St. Aloysius and St. Joseph Church and a SPARC booster. She worked at Hobbs Electric, Charles C. Thomas Publishing and Rudin Printing.
She is survived by her devoted sisters, Grace (Charles) Garbin and Nancy (Pat) Ryan, both of Springfield, and Mary (OD) O’Donnell of Escondido, Calif.; and her wonderful brother, Jasper (Rachel) Madonia of Springfield.
Aggie will be sadly missed, forever loved, and forever in our hearts. We love you and will never forget you.
Visitation will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2008, at Staab Funeral Home. A funeral mass will follow at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church, with Monsignor Thomas Holinga officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph School or St. Aloysius School.
