James P. Marta

June 2, 1920 - December 8, 2018

James P. Marta, 98, of Springfield died at 12:55 pm, Saturday, December 8, 2018 at Country Lane Memory Care. He was born on June 2, 1920 in Madrid, Spain, the son of Cesaeo and Eugenia (Amortegui) Marta. He married Betty Scattergood on March 22, 1975 and she survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Ramona Schussele of Athens and Alicia Marta of Springfield; one stepdaughter, Georgenna Mataya of Girard; nine grandchildren; canine companion, Gracie and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

James was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Mark Marta; one sister, Leonor Marta; two brothers, Pedro Marta and Adriano Marta and several canine companions.

James was employed by Fiat Allis/Allis Chalmers and retired from the State of Illinois after 40 years of service working at the Governor’s Mansion. He was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church.

The Marta family would like to thank the staff at Country Lane Memory Care for the wonderful care they provided to James during his time there.

Visitation: 5:00 – 7:00 pm Thursday, December 13, 2018 at Staab Funeral Home-Springfield.

Funeral Service: 11:00 am Friday, December 14, 2018 at Staab Funeral Home-Springfield with Rev. Paula Carmichael officiating. Burial will follow at Wolf Creek Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Country Lane Memory Care, the Alzheimer’s Association or Knox Presbyterian Church.
