James “Jim” L. Miller, 91, of Springfield, died at 1:02 pm, Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at St. John’s Hospital. He was born, October 27, 1927 in Jerseyville, to Sylvester Lynn and Mary Josephine Flamm Miller. He married Marjean Becker on April 21, 1952 and she preceded him in death on February 28, 2006.
Survivors include two daughters, Marilyn (David) Ralph of Johnston, IA and Theresa (Dow) Waldmire of Rochester; three sons, David Miller of Washington, IA, Carl (Bonnie) Miller of Rochester and Bob (Patty) Miller of Dawson; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren; his companion, Gloria Fehrenbach and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, one sister, Mary Helen Heneghan and one brother, Roy E. Miller.
Jim was a member of Church of the Little Flower; he was a member of Airplane Owners and Pilots Association; Experimental Aircraft Association and Illinois Pilots Association.
He was a US Navy Veteran serving during WWII and attended Chicago Art Institute. He retired as a Mechanical Design Engineer from Fiat Allis and after retirement worked for Dickey John and Garrett Aviation.
Visitation: 4-7 pm, Friday, November 9, 2018 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.
A prayer service will be held at 4 pm.
Funeral Mass: 10:00 am, Saturday, November 10, 2018 at Church of the Little Flower in Springfield with Reverend Allen Kemme officiating.
Graveside Service: 2:00 pm, Saturday, November 10, 2018 at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in Jerseyville, IL with Reverend Stephen Pohlman officiating.
